California uses a child support “Guideline” formula that primarily takes in to account each parent’s income, how much time each parent spends with the child, and tax implications. For me it’s very complex to calculate it by hand. Fortunately, California offers you a free calculator at:

You may need legal advice to enter the correct information into this calculator or you can be surprised when the judge comes up with a very different number than the one you anticipated.
