Remember, if you and your spouse are considering mediation, make sure you both come to the initial consultation together.
When one spouse comes in alone and is educated on the divorce process, she or he usually asks if Leslie can mediate for the couple. Usually the answer is, “No.” Typically the other spouse is going to feel that the mediator is not going to be neutral and unbiased after one spouse comes in alone and possibly gave her/his “side of the story.” This happens a lot because folks don’t realize the consequence of not coming in together.
In order to maintain her neutrality, both spouses really need to come in together to meet Leslie and be educated.
